life update

here i am at 37 weeks. i went to the dr. on monday and baby's heartbeat is great; baby has dropped; but nothing to indicate going into labor anytime soon, which is good, since i am in my sister's wedding this saturday, may 14!

poor kitty. he had his de-claw surgery in 2007, but recently his paws were bleeding unexplainably. we took him to the vet and, upon doing some x-rays, she discovered that there were bone fragments left in his paws from the original de-claw surgery, so he had to have a re-do surgery for which the clinic covered the cost since the original doctor who did his surgery obviously messed up. so here is our poor cat, topher, who has to wear this e-collar for a week so that he doesn't try to clean his paws and possibly infect them. he keeps walking into things because of the e-collar and because he is still out of it from being put under. i HATE seeing animals suffer. we are giving him pain meds that the vet sent home with us. the vet will check his paws again in a week. at least we are getting this taken care of before the baby comes!

brett made some great food last weekend. one of his meals included sirloin with a pesto sauce, baguette with gouda cheese and sun-dried tomatoes, and some kind of seasoned yukon gold potatoes.

this is brett's plate below...a big 'ol slab of beef! lately i have not been able to eat very much food in one sitting as my belly is so big and my stomach is squashed by everything shifting around to make room for a growing baby. according to a baby website, at 37 weeks, the baby weighs as much as 6 1/3 lbs.

brett has been so good to me lately. i had had such a rough weekend with sleep deprivation and other maladies, and he made all the meals, rubbed my aching feet with peppermint lotion, and pretty much did EVERYTHING. oh, and he also baked one of two cakes that i needed to make for my sister's personal shower. i feel so blessed to have a caring husband. it just makes me cry.

over the weekend we bought some more things for the baby: a diaper genie II elite, a changing pad, a boppy slipcover, and diaper rash ointment. i have almost everything i need for the hospital stay bag. we are excited. oh, and i am excited because the diaper bag arrived in the mail. susie bought it off our pottery barn kids registry, and it arrived yesterday. :)

my car is in the shop today getting the back struts replaced. we had the front ones replaced during the winter and now we are doing the back ones. brett says my ride will be a lot more smooth, which i am looking forward to! there are so many things like this that we just want to get done before baby j arrives. i made a list! one of the big things i would like done is to have our carpets cleaned. they need it! we are thinking of renting a rug doctor or something. that is the biggest thing on the list.

i have been exhausted, sore, and am experiencing a lot of swelling in my feet, much to my dismay. i think about the baby all the time. i wonder when i'm going to go into labor. will it be at night? day? weekday? weekend day? will she be born in may or in june? if brett is at work, will he get back to me quickly enough to take me to the hospital? will i have a chance to get my epidural or will it be too late? how long will labor be? how long will i be pushing? what will the baby look like? will the baby have hair? will she look like brett or like me? will nursing go okay?

this weekend is the wedding. i am looking forward to it. saturday will be a long day, and i hope i will last! i imagine i will be sitting a lot at the reception with my feet up and just enjoying watching all the family and friends celebrating. i am excited for my sister and future brother-in-law, jesse. i must admit, i am a little sad that my sister is growing up so fast, but that is the way it goes, isn't it?

  2. If you are into praying specifics, pray that you don't go into labor at the end of the day. Pray for the morning! Then you'll be the most refreshed and ready for the hardest, best day of your life!

(All three of my labors started late at night -- exhausting!)
