california getaway: en route to san francisco

Brett and I set out Saturday morning to drive back to the city (San F), but on the way we wanted to stop to see the redwoods in Muir Woods. Unfortunately the place was PACKED, and there was no parking near the entrance. We were driving extremely narrow, winding roads on the way to Muir Woods, and there were people trying to find spots along the way, but as we got further and further out, and realized we would have to walk back a couple miles just to get to the entrance, and with not a lot of time to spare, we decided to abandon our Muir plans, and stop for lunch in Sausalito before we crossed over the Golden Gate Bridge to our next trip destination.

Sausalito's neighborhoods were characterized by both rolling and steep hills, great views of the bay, charming brightly-painted homes, and quaint shops and cafes. For my Minnesotan friends, this city reminded me of a cross between Stillwater and Wayzata.

I loved the colorful tiles on these front steps
