taking back fall

last fall, i was enduring my first trimester of pregnancy. yes, i said enduring. it was a time of nausea and extreme exhaustion and being insanely sensitive to odors...even "odors" like apple cinnamon. yes, apple cinnamon, people: that made me gag. we had an apple cinnamon oil thing with a diffuser in our downstairs bathroom and i could smell it from upstairs. i ordered brett to move it to the garage. i could still smell it as i pulled into the garage after a long day at work, so i would have to hold my breath as i ran past it in the garage to get safely inside without gagging. after a few days of this, brett ended up throwing the whole thing away.

also during this time, i had no tolerance for anything sweet, so no apple crisp or apple pie for me. forget pumpkin pie. forget anything wonderful associated with the best season of the year. i was sick and miserable and lying on the couch trying to figure out which i could handle better: a saltine or an edy's frozen lemon bar.

so this year, i am living it up. i am taking back fall for myself. i am going to buy apple cinnamon candles and LOVE them. i am going to sniff them and enjoy them. i am going to eat apple crisp and apple pie. i am going to go to an apple orchard. i am going to NOT eat one saltine or plain toast with nothing on it or any other bland, tasteless food. i am going to go on brisk walks in the cool air because this fall i will have ENERGY to do things like that. i will not lie on the couch and wonder this fall if it is actually possible to die from nausea. i am going to put stella in her little kitty costume on halloween and have a fun time. i am going to put out my fall decorations and love every minute of this season. :)

what are your favorite things about fall?

  1. The weather. The leaves. Apples. Pumpkins. Halloween. Fires. Smoking around fires. Drinking and smoking around fires. Hot coffee on the porch on a cold evening.

Things I hate about it? Winter is coming.

  2. Scarves! Boots! Sweaters! Fall camping ( no bugs, campfires that are actually enjoyable because its cold, snuggley sleeping bags )! Stocking caps! Sweet crab apples! Red wine. Caramel apple dip. Colors...and after all that, Fall is still my third favorite season. (Summer is 1st, Spring a distant second and then Fall. I grew up in Alaska. I'm over winter.

  3. Yay for fall!! I love it for all the reasons that are going to motivate you to take it back, all the reasons that Nick & Corrine provide (except the smoking part). It does segue into winter sometimes kindly, sometimes abruptly, but I remain hopeful every year that winter will be temperate, sparkly and bright.
