Once upon a time life was pretty simple. Yes, I faced some challenges here and there, but nothing like this phase of life: wife to a man in the thick of building his career and raising small children, including an infant. Said infant still wakes 2-3 times per night, and my "preschooler" is testing boundaries more and more every day. We live in a semi-fixer-upper of a home, have a fairly big yard to look after, and we are renting out our former property. Add that to the normal maintenance and wear and tear of everyday life, and to say Brett and I are a little worse for wear would be an understatement.
Brett, especially. He is clocking long hours at his job at which he has numerous responsibilities, and it's a brand new company, so a lot of work to be done on the front end to set everything up. Last night he got home at 11:45. This is not the first time he's done that! So much work and not enough hours in the day.
We are getting a new tenant at our rental, and in between the old tenants moving out and the new one moving in, the city inspects our place. We are having some of the repairs done for us (new garage door), and Brett is doing the other things like fixing a bathroom fan and sliding door (among other things). Brett has to go over there tonight and do a little painting and fixing, and we have no idea what state the yard and house is in, and if the previous tenants cleaned before moving out. The new tenant moves in tomorrow, and the carpets are getting cleaned this afternoon. My mom and dad are on call to help Brett tonight in case he needs help with mowing and cleaning. In fact, one year ago, my parents were helping Brett clean and do other stuff right after we moved out. I am so thankful for my family's help. I wish I could help Brett, but I will be holding down the fort here, taking care of the girls.
Also, there is a chance we have to replace the furnace and air conditioning unit at our old place as well. :( :( :( This would be a few thousand dollars. We are getting a second opinion today by a heating and cooling company. Either way, we are going to have to pay something. So not fun.
Gotta run. Stella Joy is awake now and asking for cereal!
Crazy how similar our lives are at this point! We have three rental properties and just moved into our together home. Last week was a blur prepping our previous home for the renter, but somehow it all gets done. I will pray for minimal repairs at your rental property and some rest for the weary!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry things are so tough right now, Sarah! You and Brett are doing a great job. And hopefully someday soon, things will settle down! xoxo, Bethany
